Hundreds of Bronx residents took advantage of Saturday’s beautiful weather and gathered outside for the city’s largest-ever Summer Streets program.

The festivities were part of 22 miles of car-free streets across the five boroughs.

There was something for everyone to enjoy along the Grand Concourse between East Tremont Avenue and Mosholu Parkway, from music and art to walking and biking. The city’s Department of Transportation partnered with local groups to offer free programs throughout the morning and early afternoon.

“Anytime Bronxites can get out and go into our own neighborhood and have fun, close streets, it’s safe,” said Shelly Wilson, founder and vice president of Orisha Wholeness. “We have great activities and vendors here. It’s always a great day in The Bronx.”

“Being able to skate, being able to walk, being able to ride their bike, families out here, music, arts and crafts,” said Victor Callendar, founder of Let’s Roll NYC. “Come on, can’t beat it!”

The Summer Streets program started in July and ran for five Saturdays, with Aug. 23 marking the end of this year’s event.
