Family pushes for more child safety regulations nearly a month after infant died at Bronx day care

Family and friends gathered by candlelight in Castle Hill to honor the life of 1-year-old River Wilson, who died last month after being left unsupervised at a Bronx day care.
“We want River back, but I also want my sister back," said River’s aunt, Inemesit O’Boyle. "Once a family loses a child, their whole world changes.”
The vigil doubled as a call for action. Joined by U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, the family announced “River’s Law,” a proposed federal legislation that would ban pools at child care facilities and require more alarms in daycares.
“We will not wait… not when the stakes are a matter of life and death,” Torres said.
A recent inspection following River’s death found nine violations at the day care, including poor pool safety and inadequate supervision.
The family’s attorney, James Williams, criticized the day care for remaining silent.
“If you loved River, you wouldn’t hide behind this gate; you wouldn’t hide behind those walls,” he said.
River’s parents are still searching for answers. The city medical examiner has not yet released an official cause of death.
