City leaders unveil murals to beautify Kingsbridge and the surrounding areas
More and more murals are going to be popping up all across Kingsbridge and the surrounding neighborhood, thanks to an initiative by the Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation, Council Member Eric Dinowitz and other city organizations.

Multiple murals will be popping up all across Kingsbridge and the surrounding neighborhood, thanks to an initiative by the Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation, Council Member Eric Dinowitz and other city organizations.
The groups are bringing local artists together to paint murals on walls that are otherwise subject to graffiti.
"We love art. We love beauty. And so we really wanted to bring these vibrant murals to life and not only beautify the area through art and murals and colors, but also to help the problem of the graffiti," said Laura Levine-Pinedo, the executive director of the Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation.
Dinowitz told News 12 he's proud to live in a neighborhood that prioritizes its beauty.
"When people get off the train after a hard day's work, or they're getting on the train right before work, they see this beautiful mural. They remember they live in a beautiful neighborhood. Their day is brightened up," he said.
He told News 12 he's extremely proud to be a part of an initiative to bring beauty and happiness to communities.
News 12 also spoke with Diana Capasso, one of the main artists on several of the new murals. She called the murals a "beautiful distraction."
"It makes you get out of your head and look at something else, something beautiful. You might be having a rough time. You may be standing up there waiting to go to work, miserable. And you look down. You see this? It's like, whoa," she says.
