A Middlesex County couple says their lawn now looks like Swiss cheese and they blame their burrowing rat problem on a neighboring distribution center.

"It seems they took the Reese’s," the Moravasik's said. "What we know about, as far as the chocolates, is supposedly, they like Mars candy bars."

Kathy and Jamie Moravasik aren’t talking about Halloween preparations; they’re talking about catching rats by baiting them with chocolate.

In Ring video shared with News 12, rats of all sizes run around, dig holes in the lawn and in the pool - and it’s been going on for 18 months. They say they can’t enjoy their backyard, and they blame their neighbor KGR distribution.

"If this happened in 18 months. Give it another 18 and I’m sure it’s going to be a lot worse if they don’t get it under control," Kathy Moravasik said.

News 12 went over to the distribution facility that ships personal care items, like shampoo and perfume and toys and confectionary items like chocolate, candy and soda, everything was packaged and ready to be immediately shipped. News 12 spoke with the facility manager Marty, and he says they’re doing their part to be good neighbors; they’ve upped their extermination and have offered to pay for extermination services to neighbors experiencing issues.

"We’re doing everything we can as a company as part of the area we’ve had inspectors come walk the facility showing us that everything is clean we’re trying to make sure above and beyond that everything is 100%," Marty said.

The Moravasik’s took their grievances to tonight’s township council meeting in hopes of finding a solution, but according to the township, there’s nothing they can do.

Ronald Gordon is the municipal attorney, and he said this is a private matter.

"This is really a private property dispute between residential homeowners and a warehouse. You may have issues with that property owner and their effect on your property value but that’s not a township issue," Gordon said.

The township said the rat problem won’t be eradicated in one day and the Moravasik’s were advised to get an attorney.
