The largest Diwali festival in New Jersey took place on Saturday in Edison.

Over 100,000 lights lit up the sky at Papaianni Park to celebrate the Hindu festival of light.

"Our God Lakshmi – we invite her home, and it's about prosperity and light to our family, blessings from God," festival attendee Priyanka said.

Thousands came to the event, with singers and dance troupes entertaining the crowd throughout the day.

"Dancing with all these costumes, the songs, it really brings out the best of our culture," a performer from a local dance group said.

Vendors lined the park, selling everything from home-cooked food to traditional Indian formal ware.

"This is one of the largest Diwali events in the country. It has grown significantly. Edison is a huge hub for the Indian population in the state," Edison Mayor Sam Joshi said.

The grand finale of the event was a massive firework display and drone show. The mayor cautioned people to light fireworks responsibly during Diwali after an uptick of fires in recent days.
