Family says final goodbyes to 16-year-old football player killed in Brooklyn shooting

The family of slain 16-year-old Tyson Harps laid him to rest on Saturday, remembering the Bronx native as loving, family-oriented and friendly — even as the shooter who took his life remains on the run.
Harps, a high school football player, was shot multiple times Nov. 1 on the 1100 block of Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, according to police.
His family asked that the location of the funeral service not be shared publicly, saying they still fear the person responsible could be nearby.
“We don’t know who they are. They shouldn’t know who we are,” a family member told News 12.
Police released surveillance video of the suspect who was seen walking near the scene after Harps was killed.
The teen’s grandmother, Kisha Stewart Kendle, says the family is devastated and desperate for answers.
“We’re hurting so bad — for what?” she said. “I just want to know why they would take my baby from me. What could have been going through your mind to do such an evil act like that?”
Loved ones say Harps was a dedicated athlete, a loyal friend and a son whose future was full of potential.
Following the service, his family released balloons and doves in his honor as a gesture they hope will symbolize the light he brought into their lives.
