"The program will work by boosting the district's existing Wi-Fi network at schools so that it becomes powerful enough to reach surrounding neighborhoods," Dr. Royce Avery said.

Bridgeport Schools Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery announced a plan Monday to offer "equal access to broadband via free home Wi-Fi" to all Bridgeport students and their families.

"This initiative, which Hartford and New Haven have already undertaken, is going to be a game-changer for Bridgeport, with our District being the latest to offer this critical resource to our kiddos - with free home Wi-Fi being essential from everything from doing homework to communicating with school to preparing for college and getting a job," Dr. Avery said.

"The program will work by boosting the district's existing Wi-Fi network at schools so that it becomes powerful enough to reach surrounding neighborhoods," Dr. Avery said.

The program will be funded by a $714,000 grant and is expected to be up and running in about a year, Dr. Avery said.
