A man was hit by a vehicle while attempting to chase down the person who drove away in his own vehicle in Milford, police say.

It happened in the parking lot of Calf Pen Meadow School Monday.

Police responded to the school at 1 p.m. on Welches Point Road regarding a reported carjacking. They say an Infiniti entered the parking lot and one of the occupants got out and entered an unoccupied Volkswagen that was also in the lot.

Police say the Volkswagen's owner saw his vehicle being taken and ran after it. The Infiniti then struck the man, causing minor injuries.

The Volkswagen was later recovered in New Haven following a motor vehicle accident.

Police say there is no impact to the school community.
