Could the West Bronx become home to a ferry stop?

City Council member Althea Stevens (D16) is pushing for that to become a reality.

"Having access to the waterfront really just actually increases just the quality of life for folks in the Bronx," shares Stevens.

Stevens and others who spoke to News 12 visiting Roberto Clemente State Park said they feel a ferry service is needed in the West Bronx, near the park.

"We could really ease up some of the congestion that's on FDR drive and things like that and give people another option, because there's very little options other than having cars in the community," said Stevens.

Aisha McBride, a park visitor, told News 12 she takes the train to Roberto Clemente Park almost every day, but she would consider taking a ferry instead.

"I would actually love if there was a ferry. Sometimes I wish I could swim across there, just because it's more convenient," said McBride.

As of now, council member Stevens said a study needs to be conducted by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to see the feasibility of the project.

News 12 called and emailed the NYCEDC about the situation and is waiting to hear back.
