A man is facing multiple charges connected with a crash that critically injured a 13-year-old boy Friday morning in Borough Park.

Police say the victim was crossing 15th Avenue when Jamie Aguilar- Sanchez, 55, struck him shortly after 8 a.m.

The boy was thrown on to the roadway where he was then struck by a school bus. Both drivers remained at the scene, according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers found the teen unconscious on the ground. Emergency crews rushed him to Maimonides Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police say Aguilar- Sanchez has been charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by alcohol.

Witnesses described a heavy police presence and a chaotic aftermath at the scene of the crash.

“I was in the area, but I just saw a lot of people hovering around and tape and stuff around,” said resident Sonny Benun. “I just think the driving around here is a little wild, and it’s got to be a little safer.”

According to transportation safety data from Zero Data, more than 2,000 people are injured in the area each year, fueling concerns among neighbors who say dangerous driving has become increasingly common.

“During peak hours, you cannot move one block to another,” said Mohammed, another resident. “I just personally think it’s sad, but we just need to be careful.”

“It’s terrible, terrible,” said resident Monica. “Drivers are not really caring the way they drive. They drive like animals. They should be more aware that people are able to walk out in the streets.”

Neighbors in the tight-knit community say the incident has left many shaken and demanding safer streets.

“This is something that happens, and people are not really caring about anybody’s life,” Monica added. “My opinion is - be more careful.”
