New Jersey is officially one of the top three luckiest states in America for lottery players.

According to an analysis of Powerball and Mega Millions data, the Garden State has safely secured the bronze medal for producing the most jackpot winners.

The research, conducted by live casino games site Planet 7 Casino, analyzed data from every single Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winner across the United States over the past 20 years to find out which states produce the most multi-millionaires.

New Jersey officially ranks third in the nation, producing a staggering 33 jackpot winners since 2005.

A closer look at the data shows that Jersey players have had significantly more luck playing Mega Millions than Powerball. Of the state's 33 lucky tickets, 21 were Mega Millions jackpots, while 12 belonged to Powerball players.

The Northeast as a whole dominated the top rankings, claiming two of the top three spots on the list.

Our neighbors across the Hudson took second place. New York claimed 46 total jackpot wins, split between 33 Mega Millions winners and 13 Powerball winners.

California took the number one spot as the absolute luckiest state in America, boasting 54 total jackpot winners over the two-decade span. The Golden State’s dominance was heavily driven by Mega Millions, which accounted for 37 of their wins.

The study showed a clear nationwide trend: Mega Millions tends to produce far more jackpot winners than Powerball in almost every top state, with one major exception.

While Florida rounded out the top five, it completely bucked the national trend. Sunshine State players found overwhelming success with Powerball, which accounted for 17 of their 22 total jackpot wins, whereas the other top states leaned heavily toward Mega Millions.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the data shows that five states sit tied at the absolute bottom of the list. Wyoming, Mississippi, North Dakota, Montana and Vermont have recorded zero Mega Millions jackpot winners and face the longest drought for multi-million dollar tickets. While a few of these states have recorded rare Powerball wins in their history, they represent the hardest places in the country to strike it rich on a mega-jackpot.

Still, even with the odds stacked heavily against the bottom tier, the billions of dollars regularly up for grabs mean that top-ranked New Jersey remains one of the absolute best and luckiest places in the nation to buy a ticket.
