The New York State Senate has passed a bill that would allow the Department of Sanitation to issue summons using cameras attached to street sweepers.

The Department of Sanitation says this is a win and a step closer to keeping neighborhoods clean.

"Nearly 500,000 car owners disregard street cleaning regulations every week, keeping us from cleaning more than 3,000 miles of streets,” said DSNY Commissioner Gregory Anderson.

Bill S1891A still needs to be approved by the State Assembly to be put in place. If approved, those violating alternate parking rules could be facing fines.
