A Bronx man accused of brutally killing a cat and posting about it on social media has agreed to serve two years in prison.
David Mosley pleaded guilty Friday morning to aggravated cruelty to animals in Bronx Supreme Court, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Judge Laurence Busching ordered a probation report before formally sentencing Mosley on Aug. 11.
Prosecutors also said Mosley’s supervised release was revoked following his guilty plea, and he was remanded into custody at Rikers Island. The Bronx District Attorney’s Office says he will serve his sentence at Rikers rather than being transferred to a state prison.
The case drew widespread attention after prosecutors alleged Mosley killed a cat in what they described as a ritualistic sacrifice before posting about it online. The allegations sparked outrage from animal rights advocates, who repeatedly packed the courthouse during court appearances and called for justice.
Mosley’s guilty plea marks the end of a case that prompted months of protests and intense public scrutiny.
He is expected to return to court on Aug. 11 for formal sentencing.
