Coyote takes pet cat from yard in Croton-on-Hudson

Croton-on-Hudson officials are warning the community to be coyote-conscious after a coyote attack on Saturday morning.
Officials say police received a report around 9 a.m. on Saturday of a coyote that had taken a cat from a home's yard on O'Riley Court in Croton-on-Hudson.
The coyote ran into the woods with the pet. The homeowner tried to locate the coyote but was unsuccessful.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) recommends keeping pet food indoors and securing garbage to avoid attracting coyotes to your property.
To help protect pets, the DEC also advises against letting them roam freely, recommends fencing in yards, and suggests removing brush and tall grass where coyotes may hide.
