Tenants at a Morris Heights apartment building say they're worried their roof could collapse after years of leaks and little visible progress on repairs.

Residents say the entire sixth floor of the building on University Avenue was evacuated about a year and a half ago because of severe water damage. Former tenant Altagracia Nunez says conditions became unbearable.

She said that whenever it rained, water poured through her apartment "like a river."

Tenants who remain in the building say the leaks have spread to the fifth floor, leaving water damage on ceilings and floors. One resident, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation from management, said she's concerned the roof or floor could eventually give way.

Another tenant questioned why repairs to individual apartments appear to be taking priority over fixing the source of the problem.

"I'm very discouraged. I'm disgusted," the resident said. "Nice cabinets, nice floors, sounds nice. But my main concern is the roof."

News 12 observed new cabinets being installed in one apartment while a water-damaged bathroom ceiling remained unrepaired right next to it.

News 12 reached out to Progressive Management for comment but has not yet received a response.
