Suffolk police officers rescue injured hawk in Mastic

Two Suffolk police officers helped rescue a hawk that was trapped on a highway median on Tuesday.
The Highway Patrol Bureau responded to the report of a bird that was stuck on Sunrise Highway in Mastic.
When officers Keith Jansen and John Puzelli got to the scene they discovered the animal had an injured wing and could not fly, according to police.
Officer Jansen was able to secure the hawk, who was perched atop a wire fence, using an emergency blanket.
The bird was then safely transported to West Islip Animal Hospital for treatment.
