Police are looking for a group of men after a 24-year-old was gunned down while playing basketball inside a Parkchester playground.
According to investigators, the suspects approached the man inside Caserta Playground on Saint Raymonds Avenue. They say a fight broke out and was followed by gunfire at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim was shot three times, and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he is now listed in critical, but stable condition.
Cops have not revealed exactly how many people first approached the victim, or if he was playing basketball alone. However, they say that the suspects are all believed to be in their 20s.
With many schools in the area, including an elementary and high school across the street from the park, the community is worried about the safety of their children.
"Last night's shooting at Caserta Playground is especially disturbing because of where it took place," says Bronx Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda in a statement about the shooting. "It is vital that we protect our parks so that people are not afraid to use them."
