An early morning shooting in Starlight Park left a 26-year-old man dead, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Ronell Marte. They said he was shot in the chest just before 3 a.m. He was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is not the first shooting in Starlight Park this summer. In June, 17-year-old Darrel Harris was shot and killed. Sources told News 12 the incident began as a water gun fight, then escalated into an argument with real gunfire.

People at Starlight Park told News 12 crews they fear they could be the next victim of violence.

"I don't want it to happen to me. I'm sure he'd been innocently walking by, and something like that happens to him. No good," said Mike, a Bronx resident.

Another person told News 12 "bad things happen every day."

Officials say they are actively looking for the killer, and if anyone has information them to contact police.
