A 14-year-old North Rockland High School student is among the dead after a car ran into a tree on a New City road that has become known for crashes.

The victims include 20-year-old Andrew Pinos, of Nanuet; 18-year-old Larry Buestan, of Thiells and 14-year-old North Rockland High student Nuria Fajardo, of Stony Point.

On an online fundraising page to raise funds for her funeral costs, Nuria's family said she was positive, curious, and always made people smile.

Clarkstown police said all three victims were in a Honda Civic at about 3 a.m. Sunday, heading north on North Little Tor Road, when the car left the road, jumped a curb, went airborne and hit a tree at North Little Tor Rd. and Roberts Road.

Kathy Sweeney, who lives near Sunday's crash scene, wondered if the car just left the road, or if the driver was trying to avoid another car or an animal.

Police said they are still reconstructing the crash to figure out the exact circumstances.

There was still no word late Monday about how fast the Civic was going, nor whether alcohol was a factor.

Sweeney said North Little Tor Road needs to be monitored.

"Once in a while they'd have a cop down there," she said. "I haven't seen a cop in a while now, but they do fly on this road."

Rick and Rose Petti live just north of the crash scene.

They said Monday they often see close calls, fender benders, and sometimes more serious injury crashes.

"We do call them in quite often," Rose Petti said. "We are usually the first ones unless the people who are involved in the accident call before us. There have been plenty of accidents on this corner."

Crash statistics for this stretch of North Little Tor Road were not immediately available from Clarkstown Police.

Police said in a press release Monday they are still investigating the crash and are asking anyone who might have information about the crash to call the department's traffic unit at 845-639-5800.
