A local police precinct is giving back to the community this Christmas by handing out toys to children.
Police officers from the 42nd Precinct spent their own time and money to donate 400 gifts for the community to enjoy. The event was the first ever toy drive organized by the precinct.
Police teamed up with the community to donate gifts, which were divided up based on age and gender.
Children were also able to take pictures with Santa.
"We invited the kids here to the precinct so they can interact with Santa and the police officers," says Deputy Inspector Ernest Morales III. "That shows them that they always have a safe haven to come here."
Officers tell News 12 they are taking the remaining presents to a school in the Bronx.
