Police say five people were hospitalized after a car crash at the notoriously dangerous intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Silver Street Monday night.

Residents say the intersection is plagued by speeding cars and confusing traffic signals. Many residents filed complaints with the Department of Transportation in April to encourage a study of the area and changes to the synch of the signals or crosswalks.

The intersection is particularly dangerous because Overing Street also intersects, meaning cars are coming from three directions, residents say.

Members of Community Board 10 say they have asked the DOT to make improvements. The DOT was unavailable for comment.
