Residents of the 55 NYCHA senior buildings in Brooklyn and the Bronx will soon lose their unarmed security service.

The service will end by June 30. The swift change has senior residents questioning the cost of their safety.

"I'm going to feel insecure to go inside because I got mugged twice and it's bad for some seniors," says Jo-Ann Casanova, a resident. "Really, they need the security."

NYCHA says cutting the cost of the security guard program will save $7 million.

"Security guards are the first line of defense, and it could act as a deterrence to protect seniors," says Chris Banks, a New York City council member of District 42.

NYCHA addressed the security cuts in a statement to News 12. It said it will “continue to advocate for much-needed funding...and work closely with the NYPD to address crime and security concerns at these locations.”
