A bit of summer normalcy amid the coronavirus pandemic came Friday as some city pools opened.
The NYC Parks Department says only 15 pools will reopen for this summer season with reduced capacity, including the eight that opened Friday.
There will be safety guidelines and procedures that must be followed, like wearing a face covering when entering the pool facility and social distancing by maintaining at least 6 feet apart from other patrons.
Also, if the lines get too long, the Parks Department plans to have a wristband system in place. Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver tells News 12 there were concerns amid the pandemic and budget cuts, which almost led to pools staying closed.
The eight pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
Mullaly Pool in the Bronx, Sunset and Kosciusko in Brooklyn all opened Friday.
