An 83-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to a human torso that was found in East New York last Thursday, police say.
The suspect has been identified as Harvey Marcelin, who was charged with concealment of a human corpse. Police identified the victim as 68-year-old Susan Leyden of Brooklyn. Police say a part of her body was found in a bag inside a shopping cart near the corner of Pennsylvania and Atlantic avenues.
Sources say Marcelin was out on parole for a prior manslaughter conviction.
According to court records, surveillance footage shows a woman going into Marcelin's home on Feb. 27 with a multicolored bag with a flower decal. On March 2, Marcelin is seen rolling that same bag out of the building. In more footage, police say Marcelin is seen leaving that bag outside where police found part of Leyden's body. Police say they found the human head when they executed a search warrant at Marcelin's home.
The medical examiner has yet to determine an official cause of death.
A human leg was also found not far from the other body parts earlier this week. Police say they are looking into the possibility that there's a connection but are waiting on the medical examiner for confirmation.
