An elderly woman was fatally struck by a car in the Bronx just one day after she had celebrated her birthday.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in front of the entrance to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Beatrice Kahn, 89, was crossing Riverdale Avenue when she was struck by an SUV that was turning left from West 263rd Street.
EMTs took Kahn to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
News 12 is told that the 35-year-old female driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
Kahn's daughter, Judith Kahn, tells News 12 that her mother had just celebrated her birthday the day before. She says it was a wonderful party and that her mother was happy, and it was not her time to go. She says her mother had just started folk dancing again last week, and was loved by all who knew her.
Neighbors say the incident happened at a dangerous intersection where people often speed. Some say they want to see speed cameras installed.
