More than 100 service members and civilians gathered for the unveiling and blessing of a 9/11 monument in the Bronx Sunday.
The three-sided stone pillar showcases the tragic death tolls from the attack and is topped with a piece of the tower’s steel.
The monument was made possible by Gene Lynch, Founder of the Never Forget Foundation, who says he searched for a home for the monument for five years.
The pillar is now located in the backyard of the Redwood Social Club in Throgs Neck, something members say they're happy about.
Organizers say that locating the monument in such a peaceful location on the water is a perfect fit.
Daniel D'allara was one of the attendees who placed a wreath during the ceremony for his twin brother, a police officer killed rescuing victims in the north tower.
“It's comforting that their memories will always be here,” he said.
