"Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this," are singer Kelly Clarkson's famous lyrics. This New Year's Eve that moment came to center stage when two Brooklynites, Marcello Cialini and Brian Artzt, tied the knot alongside their idol Kelly Clarkson at her Las Vegas concert.
"'We didn't give up, and it's like the time where we didn't try,' Cialini explained, as both he and his partner, Brian Artzt, attempted to get Clarkson's attention to marry them the night before at her show on Dec. 30, but were unsuccessful.
Cialini and Artzt say their relationship grew over their love for Clarkson's music, and even bonded over songs on their first date. In March of 2019, Artzt proposed to Cialini at Clarkson's concert in Baltimore.
"She stopped the band, and said 'Did you say you just got engaged?' so, she stopped the band and talked to us and everything," Cialini said.
In an attempt to get a glimpse from Clarkson on NYE, Artzt held up a T-shirt with the couple's engagement photo on it, which read "Kelly, Will You Be The Witness At Our Vegas Wedding?" and handed it to Clarkson. Within seconds, the couple was alongside Clarkson, and she asked an ordained minister from the crowd to officiate.
"From the start of your career, to the marriage of Marcello and I, thank you for just being you," Artzt said.
Artzt and Cialini will celebrate their 15th anniversary together this month.
