Synagogues and Jewish organizations in Brooklyn are on high alert after Iran's missile and drone attack Saturday on Israel.

Israel hailed its air defenses on Sunday, saying it thwarted 99% of the more than 300 drones and missiles launched toward its territory. Regional tensions were high amid fears of an Israeli counterstrike that could fuel further escalation.

Mayor Eric Adams says additional NYPD resources are to be deployed across the city within the Jewish communities and synagogues out of an abundance of caution.

He says there is no imminent threat, but in a city with highest population of Jewish people outside of Israel, it’s important to be prepared.

News 12’s Julia Joseph spoke with congregants outside Chabad Lubavitch in Crown Heights. One called the tensions in the region since Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7 “a very dangerous situation.”

“I think the only thing there is to do is random acts of kindness,” the congregant said. “Doing random acts of kindness will do a very beneficial spirit to our neighborhood, more important to our state, most important to our country."

They said the NYPD is almost always stationed outside the house of worship and Sunday was no different.
