There are several abandoned trucks, trailers, and even a boat on Jerome Avenue in Woodlawn, just north of the Woodlawn train station. Residents told News 12 "they shouldn't be here," as they complained about the lack of parking spots for commuters who take the 4 train. People also said it's an eyesore. There are multiple vehicles that are poorly kept, and some people even say the street is a dumping ground for cars used in crimes. "People are stealing the vehicles from other jurisdictions and bringing them over here and leaving them abandoned here when they're done doing all that they do," said Christopher Hinojosa, a Woodlawn resident. Hinojosa said he's seen some trucks in the same place for the past two years. One person told News 12 she lives in one of the trailers because she'd otherwise be homeless. "We should all be allowed to stay here. We shouldn't have to be made homeless, we should all be allowed to stay. We're all working people. We're all doing dog walking, pet sitting, construction," said Rachel Roshenthal, a woman who lives in a trailer on Jerome Avenue. Roshenthal told News 12 she hopes she can stay put and that she's not bothering anyone by being there. Meanwhile city leaders say to call 311 to report an abandoned vehicle. The Department of Sanitation told News 12 it's working with the NYPD through an abandoned vehicle task force. In fiscal year 2025, they removed close to 27,000 vehicles from our city's streets. Both city agencies are working to find out more information about this specific street.
