Community members and activists in Fordham gathered on Thursday to call for an end to gun violence in the borough.  

This comes after a pregnant woman was shot in the leg earlier this week, just one day into the new year. Police say the 35-year-old woman was placing an order from a food truck on East Fordham Road and Grand Concourse on Monday evening when a stray bullet struck her in the leg. 

Fortunately, the mother and her unborn child are expected to be OK, but activists and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson were in Fordham speaking with residents about what they think is the best way to make the borough safer. 

“We’re just sending a message to the community that these conflicts don’t have to be resolved like this,” said Michael Rodriguez, director of the B.R.A.G. Program. “We have many resources where you can come in and just sit down and discuss how to handle the situations you’re going through… we have many programs to work on these.”
