With the arrival of asylum seekers in the city, many community activists are expressing concerns over the challenges they are facing.
Catholic Charities of New York are among those speaking out on the issue.
"The government has recently started sending hearing notices to nonprofits who have no connection to the people in deportation proceedings. Since the beginning of this summer, Catholic Charities of New York has received hearing notices for over 350 people that we've never met and have no way of contacting. We've never provided them with any consultation. We've never talked with them on the phone. It is unknown why we are receiving these hearing notices,” said Lauren Wyatt, of Catholic Charities of NY.
