Long Islanders are calling for state support to extend the Empire State Trail.
Called the EST, the 750-mile trail stretches from Buffalo to Manhattan.
Advocates say the trail excludes the 8 million New Yorkers who live east of the city.
A group is now creating plans -- and garnering support -- to develop the Long Island Greenway.
"Trust for public land working with others developed a full plan to extend from Manhattan to Greenport and Montauk. The first phase would be a 25-mile section that begins in Eisenhower County Park and ends up here at Brentwood Park," Sen. Alexis Weik explains.
A budget to complete the project will be presented to Gov. Kathy Hochul in December.
