An affordable housing lottery began for applicants Wednesday seeking to live in a supportive housing complex in Mount Eden.
Officials announced the opening of the housing lottery for applicants seeking to become residents of the Riverton Apartments at 111 E. 172nd St.
Half of the residents housed in the 126-unit building are formerly homeless New Yorkers or families with special needs, officials say.
To qualify for the lottery, applicants must make 60 percent of the area’s median income.
Units include a $864 per month studio and $1,122 per month 2-bedroom units.
Neighbors agree the building should be fully occupied with residents who qualify for affordable housing.
The facility incorporates sustainable elements like solar panels as well as health-focused amenities like outdoor exercise equipment, a bike sharing program, community garden and kitchen to encourage and teach residents about healthy eating.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply to enter the waitlist for the affordable Riverton Apartments until Oct. 22, 2018.
