A Memorial Day ceremony was held in Co-op City Sunday to thank those who went to serve the country and never came home.
American Legion Post 1871 held its annual Memorial Day service, an event it has hosted since the 1970s.
The event opened with prayer, a rendition of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.
It concluded with the laying of a wreath, firing of volleys and playing of taps.
The American Legion Post says it’s important to recognize the history of the American flag on Memorial Day, a flag that stands for the strength of the nation and represents freedom and democracy.
