The 37-year-old Latvian native who is accused of killing her fiancé while the two were kayaking on the Hudson River appeared on "20/20" Friday night.
Angelika Graswald sat down with host Elizabeth Vargas in her first televised interview airing on ABC since being released from prison last year.
As News 12 has reported, the Poughkeepsie woman pleaded guilty to involuntarily killing her fiance, Vincent Viafore, while kayaking on the Hudson River in 2015, a decision she says wasn't an easy one to make.
Graswald was initially charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors claim she admitted to wanting Viafore dead during interviews with authorities.
However, Graswald says that isn't true and that she was just angry and wanted Viafore to stop forcing her to do things she didn't like.
"If you're in a relationship, how many times do you want to kill your spouse? Like I just want to kill him. But not in a way you're going to take a weapon and whack his head on something. You just say that," she told Vargas.
After spending nearly three years behind bars, Graswald is a free a woman and says she no longer feels guilty.
"They can say whatever they want. God knows the truth. I know the truth. I'm at peace," she said.
