Annual Alzheimer’s walk in Downtown Brooklyn supports victims and families

Hundreds of people attended a walk to support victims of Alzheimer’s and their families on Sunday in Downtown Brooklyn.
The Alzheimer’s Association says New York has the second highest number of people with the disease in the country, with close to 200,000 of them in New York City alone.
People at the walk told News 12 that they look forward to the walk each year because it reminds them that they are not alone in the battle against Alzheimer’s.
Attendees held different types of flowers to symbolize their relationship to the illness. Those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s carried blue flowers. People who have lost someone to the disease held purple flowers. Individuals who are currently caring for someone with Alzheimer’s held yellow flowers.
One person each year also carries a white flower, which represents hope for a cure.
