Annual ‘Boogie on the Boulevard’ event promotes healthy living
The sixth annual Boogie on the Boulevard event was held Sunday on the Grand Concourse.
Organizers say the aim of the event is to show that healthy living is fun instead of burdensome for residents.
Free samples of healthy food were handed out, and demonstrations of effective workouts were given.
There was a 5K run, as well as group physical activities.
Assistant Commissioner at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Dr. Jane Bedell says bringing healthier lifestyles to the Bronx is a serious issue.
“We know from the research that if we don’t do something to change what’s going on in the Bronx and neighborhoods like those in the Bronx, that about half of our children in the Bronx will grow up and develop diabetes. We need to change that, and this is part of changing that,” she says.
The event was planned in collaboration with over 90 organizations.
