As many schools mark the end of the academic year in celebration, one Bronx school's sendoff is more bitter than sweet.
Aquinas High School in Belmont is officially closing its doors next June.
The school’s principal, Mark A. Shultz, released a statement saying in part, "Ending instruction at the school was a considered decision based on declining enrollment numbers, a situation compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic's economic impact.”
"It’s sad… Aquinas has been an integral part of my life,” said basketball coach Gregory Saunders.
The school will continue to hold classes for upperclassmen until the end of the 2020-2021 academic year.
