Army veteran wants tattered flag outside post office replaced
An Army veteran from the Bronx is calling for the replacement of a tattered American flag outside an Allerton post office.
Nolan Miura reached out to News 12 after he noticed the flag wrapped up in wires outside his neighborhood post office last week. Miura, a retired NYPD officer and Army veteran, says attempts to reach out to the U.S. Postal Service were unsuccessful.
Miura says seeing the flag in such shape and flying improperly is a disgrace.
"It makes me angry," he says. "It shouldn't be like that, especially on a federal building."
A Postal Service representative tells News 12 in a statement: "Clearly windy weather and those many wires have taken a toll. More than one in five postal employees is a veteran...please pass along my personal apologies and I will see what we can do."
