A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a mass shooting at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union County last month.
The county prosecutor’s office says Jaheed Fields, of Newark, faces multiple charges in connection with the shooting that killed a New York City man and injured six others.
The shooting happened on April 11 at the Chick-fil-A on Route 22 in Union Township. Officials say 23-year-old Malek Shepherd was killed.

“The brazen nature of this incident, occurring in a crowded restaurant where people should feel safe, was an affront to our citizens and the security they deserve,” prosecutor William Daniel wrote in a statement.
It was unclear if Shepherd was the intended target or a bystander.
Fields was arrested on Friday on Hayes Street in Newark and taken to Essex County Jail to be held until his next court appearance.
