The organization ARTSAVE, Inc. is aiming to stamp out gun violence that has plagued communities in New York City.
It’s pushing art therapy to address gang violence and mental health challenges.
Shelton Watson, the organization’s founder and CEO, says he is hoping to “use art to change
behavior, to change emotions and to address gun violence within low-income communities.”
Watson
formed ARTSAVE after his nephew was shot and killed while sitting in
his car at a red light, according to the
group’s website.
The next step
for ARTSAVE is the creation of a documentary showing how gang-related violence
impacts the community and the immediate changes that must happen.
