Casino workers in Atlantic City are getting their COVID-19 vaccines thanks to a joint effort between several groups.
The partnership is between AtlantiCare, the Casino Association of New Jersey and the union United Here Local 54 – the largest casino workers union in the state. The goal is to vaccinate every casino worker who wants the shot by Memorial Day, or about 25,000 workers.
Resorts Casino server Flexi Blanco is one week into his first vaccine shot.
“It was very exciting because I was trying to get vaccinated for months, but I couldn’t get the appointment,” he says.
Blanco says that vaccinating the workers has the potential to make an impact on tourism in Atlantic City.

“If people feel safe, they will come back to Atlantic City,” he says.
Blanco says that Resorts Casino has taken extensive measures to ensure guests’ safety. He says that many of his co-workers are signing up to get the vaccine at the Atlantic County megasite.
While capacity limits inside casinos are still capped at 50%, Blanco says that he has a good feeling about the summer.
“I think it will be good. People, they want to get out and they want to enjoy their time again,” he says. “I want things to get back to normal like before. Atlantic City is a beautiful city, so I want people to come and enjoy our city."
The Atlantic City megasite is vaccinating about 4,000 people per day.
