Beachgoers are expressing their frustration about parking fees at some city beaches, including Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn.
The parking lot at Manhattan Beach is charging $7 on the weekdays when open and $22 on the weekends.
People are saying this is too much, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced last week that city beaches are open, but that swimming is strictly banned and that lifeguards will not be on duty.
Orchard Beach in the Bronx is also charging for parking.
In an ongoing poll on News 12’s Facebook page, 72% of people said they don’t believe they should have to pay for parking at the beach--28% said there should be a fee to park.
News 12 reached out to the Parks Department, which says it has no plan to reduce parking fees and that it did not raise prices this year.
The department said fees go to the city’s general fund.
