Business in Bedford Park is getting off to a rough start in the new year following a water main break that flooded parts of Webster Avenue.

On Dec.16, the Department of Environmental Protection says a broken pipe from 1890 sent water tearing through the neighborhood near the New York Botanical Garden.

Dozens of stores on Webster Avenue were closed when News 12 crews checked out the area right after New Years, including a post office, a barber shop, a hair salon and a day care. Owners at stores that have managed to reopen, like Royal African & Caribbean Foods, say it hasn't been easy and that small businesses need more help navigating this crisis.

Sources with NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) tell News 12 that businesses in need of support should call 888-SBS-4NYC (888-727-4692). News 12 also learned that eligible businesses can be reimbursed up to $11,460 for loss of perishable items.
