Weeks after a devastating water main break in Bedford Park, residents are still picking up the pieces.
Ramon Gonzalez’s apartment was in the basement of a building that flooded, with water reaching nearly nine feet high. Now, the space is unlivable, and Gonzalez says he has lost everything.
“Everything. Mattress, clothes, food. Everything,” Gonzalez said.
With no family nearby, Gonzalez is relying on friends for temporary shelter but says it’s not safe.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross says it has helped 25 households with temporary housing and continues to assist affected residents.
Gonzalez hopes to find a new place to live soon, but his belongings are gone for good.
