A Belmont family tells News 12 they’ve dealt with mold in their apartment for years, but mushrooms started growing this summer.

They say it stems from a leak.

Maylein Garcia says she has taken multiple steps to fix the issue, like filing a 311 complaint, taking it to housing court and requesting a transfer.

Garcia says whenever someone tries to fix it, the issue persists.

“It makes you sweat, it makes your eyes itch, it makes your chest cave in. You shouldn’t feel like that in your own home,” said Garcia.

Michael Davis also lives in the apartment and tells News 12 his doctor says the mold is not good for his heart condition.

Davis shared a doctor’s note with News 12 suggesting that he needs a living situation that doesn’t have health conditions that perpetuate these issues.

They tell News 12 their management company offered another housing situation, but said the conditions aren’t much better.

News 12 reached out to the management company, but hasn’t heard back.
