A short drone video showing the uninhabited North Brother Island between the Bronx and Rikers Island has gone viral.

Teddy Haggerty, who created the video with his friends Scott Kalberer and Dave Erath, says he first saw the island on a boat ride last year and became curious about its history.

"We read a couple stories about it online and just thought it was pretty interesting," he says. "So we are like, 'Hey, this would probably be a cool idea. Let's come back out here with a couple of drones and cameras.'"

North Brother Island was once home to a hospital on the East River. The drone footage uncovered forgotten buildings hidden from view by trees.

The video received more than 50,000 views as of Tuesday.
