The Bikers of Brooklyn riding club gathered in Brooklyn Saturday to join the 14th annual Ride 2 Live, a breast cancer awareness event.
The event is organized in the hopes of raising awareness about breast cancer prevention screenings and raising money for Maimonides Breast Center.
Dr. Patrick Borgen, head surgeon at Maimonides Breast Center and founder of the Breast Cancer Project, is also a member of the Bikers of Brooklyn Riding Club. He said this event is a fun way to bring attention to an important issue.
"In 2007, with my friends from the Brooklyn Harley Davidson Group founded this even to raise awareness," Borgen said.
The ride started at the Maimonides Medical Center in Sunset Park where Borgen and his team treat thousands of patients.
As Breast Cancer Awareness month kicks off on Oct. 1, doctors stress the importance of getting yearly mammograms.
"If you're over 40, get that mammogram. When we find a cancer that we can't feel, the cure rate is 97%," Borgen said.
The ride ended at Maimonides Park in Coney Island, where breast cancer survivor stressed the importance of staying positive throughout the treatment.
