Rain showers will arrive Saturday by 2 a.m. across the borough, with steady rain expected the rest of the night and through much of Saturday morning. While there may be an isolated downpour or two, the rain will be light to steady most of the time. It will be a minor inconvenience on the roads with wet and slick conditions expected.
There will be a brief break between the showers Saturday morning and pop-up thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Not everyone will see the storms as they will be scattered, but be prepared for gusty downpours, especially around sunset. This is a part of a cold front, which will pass through by 8 p.m. It will quickly clear Saturday night but get very windy.
The Jones Road wildfire in Ocean County, New Jersey has burned over 15,000 acres and is 60% contained as of Friday afternoon. Any rain will be especially beneficial there. With the wind shifting direction, there will not be any additional wildfire smoke drifting up into the borough. Even with Sunday's wind, the smoke will be sent offshore and not in the direction of the city.
It will get also cooler behind the showers and storms for Sunday, but it will stay quite windy. Temperatures will struggle to reach the low-60s despite plenty of sun. Gusts could potentially exceed 40 mph which will make it feel cooler.
Warmer weather returns next week, with more 80s and even a chance at 90 degrees possible for Tuesday and Wednesday next week. There is now a chance a backdoor cold front stops the heat from reaching the borough. Stay with the News 12 Storm Watch Team for updates.
