Morris Avenue will soon be the site of the newest Black Lives Matter mural, with the letters painted right onto the street between 161st and 162nd streets.
Just around the corner from Criminal Court and the Hall of Justice, the stretch of Morris Avenue will be emblazoned with the three most-chanted words in protests around the world recently.
Taking a cue from leaders who have painted large-scale street murals in other cities following the death of George Floyd, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday that one street mural will be coming to each borough over the next three weeks. Each of the five streets will also be co-named for the Black Lives Matter movement, if the City Council gives its approval.
People in the community say much more must be done to bring about equality but that the murals are a good start.
There's no word yet on who will be painting the murals or when exactly they will be done during the next three weeks. Stay with News 12 for updates.
